Paul F. Nora, MD, founder and director of the Nora Institute for Surgical Patient Safety, dedicated in June at the American College of Surgeons headquarters in Chicago, IL, talks with Contemporary Surgery Editor Richard Kirkner.

The goal of the Nora Institute is to ensure the safety and quality of surgical care through patient and physician education, and by monitoring the legislative process as it relates to patient safety.

Dr Nora is a professor of clinical surgery at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago. He has lent his expertise to the many surgical patient safety efforts of the American College of Surgeons. He is co-editor of ACS Surgical Patient Safety: Essential Information for Surgeons in Today's Environment and editor of two editions of the College's Professional Liability/Risk Management: A Manual for Surgeons.
